Save on Milk for Your Baby

On Formula: If you choose not to breastfeed (obviously the cheapest option), your best bet is buying powdered formula in bulk. Liquid concentrate and Ready-to-drink formula are much more expensive. As always keep an eye out for coupons and stock up when available.

Breastfeeding is the most healthy and economical option, even if you are a working mother.

But Breastfeeding is not always physically an option.

Breastfeeding is always an option It is the natural way the human race survived. Formula is expensive and chemical. Whatever obstacles a mother might face to this healthy and economical choice, there is support. Contact La leche and they will help you make it work if that's what you want.

Breast feeding is not only economical but the healthiest option for your baby. It's always an option, even for working moms. You can supplement with formula. This isn't as much about frugality as it is about health.

Honestly I can sympathize with both the breastfeeding and formula feeding sides of the fence. I exclusively breast fed my first, (this child could have gone to college breast feeding if I had let him hehehe). I was working graveyard at work and my supply dropped so the Pediatrician and I thought it was the late shift and I had to be prescribed a medication that is not available here in USA (purchased through Canada) to produce enough milk for my son.

With child number two, same issue presented itself when he was just a few weeks old. I wasn't working graveyard so the Pediatrician determined that it was truly just me. I was amongst the growing population of women that have reduced supply (due to stress, work, caring for special needs child...who knows). I was no longer working so I couldn't afford the Canadian med so I pumped my whole 1/2 ounce (15 ml...thats only a tablespoon) every 4 hours and HAD to supplement with formula. After 7 months my child weaned himself (I pumped but no supply other than a dribble came).

So, lets not do the debate.

I am an absolute advocate of exclusively breastfeeding, however there are times when one must do what we have to because it is the best interest of our child; that includes having to supplement or switch to formula.

Now, having said that lets keep the good ideas coming about where to find great deals or cheep sources of formula...some of us need it!!!
