DIY Centerpieces

Submitted by: jessa28  06/11/2008 12:42 PM

I decided to create my own centerpieces to save some money on wedding expenses.

I have always loved orchids, so I called around to a few places and found a great deal on orchids at Trader Joe's. The woman in charge of flowers even held 20 beautiful orchids of all shapes and colors aside for me--I only had to give her two weeks notice. It was $12/orchid.

Then I checked out a few stores for flower pots and found the perfect ones at a Crate and Barrel Outlet for about $7/each. So total cost of my non-fuss centerpieces was $19/each.

The day before the wedding we simply dropped the orchid containers into the pot and covered with moss from my parents back yard--and voila--we had the most elegant centerpiece.

All my guests thought that a professional had done my flowers. I gave most of the orchids away to family, but kept one for myself and it has just bloomed again.

I’ve found that the best prices on good quality orchids can be found at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods and IKEA. I never buy them from the florist as the prices are hugely inflated.
