#5 is right up my alley - but have to disagree with the avoiding the 'gym like the plague' comment. I live in a cold icy city in the northeast and if it weren't for the gym, I definitely would be out of shape in teh winter months. I like being surrounded by people who are also working out, it motivates me. And the gym is a place where I can get away from all the noise and focus on getting healthy. It is well worth the $19 a month. and worth the time it took to find a good rate (most memberships in my area are $70 or more!

I find working out with friends really helps me motivate and saves me money because instead of meeting up for $20 dinner/drinks we meet up for a run or walk. so I get to see friends and get my workout in without spending a dime. 2 birds, 1 stone.

@coldcitygirl: Touche! I live in Florida, so perhaps I was biased in my discussion--you make a lot of great points.

@Tip Hero: Thanks for the inclusion in this awesome list!

@Wojciech Kulicki - ahhh, Florida - now it makes sense - if I lived there, I'd definitely skip the gym!

Definitely worth considering your cost per visit when you join a gym - if you average once a week and your monthly fees are 50- or more, it might not be worth it. You might be better off with a class or gym that's pay as you go.
