Why is HEPA Air Cleaner Emitting White Dust?

Submitted by: Elena  03/04/2010 11:13 PM

Hope somebody out there can tell me why my old Honeywell via Sears HEPA air cleaner is emitting white particles all of the same size. Although the pre-filter is new, it was in package for 9-12 months since I bought it. Is pre-filter a lemon, HEPA filter worn out (can be replaced) or is it time to junk the whole machine? Hate to waste the money on parts if machine needs to go.

The white stuff you are seeing is the amonia and dust particles in your air. Your machine needs to be cleaned

not sure what that is, but you definitely need to keep your filter clean. read the manual to find out how often you should clean it.

on an aside. if you have asthma, you should get a HEPA filter that doesn't have ionizing air because that creates ozone with is a trigger for asthma.
