Save Money on Baby Food -- Store in Freezer

Submitted by: anonymous  07/16/2008 8:02 AM

To make easily servable sizes of baby food .... puree the food in the blender or food processor. Put it in ice cube trays and freeze. Then put in ziploc bags after frozen, label what it is and date. To use get it out early and let it thaw, or use toaster oven, stove top pan or (some use) microwave to heat. Microwave can create hot spots so be careful with it. With these you can easily know how much your baby is eating because of the uniform size. There is no storage jars to waste and because they are frozen they last longer than making a batch for the fridge. You can do a better variety also.

I've been doing this for 15 years. It is a great way to feed baby healthy, (organic if you choose), unprocessed food. Carrots, peas, green beans, squash, chicken, etc., it all works well. Use a food processor for your chicken. You can add veggies and stir, then freeze...it'll be just like what you buy in the jar. Add cooked pasta and any whole grain of your choice will up the nutrition value too. How much you puree/mash will allow you to change the foods to your babies stage of eating.
