3 Creative Uses for Aspirin

Submitted by: Kira @ Tip Hero  06/03/2010 11:18 AM

If you have aspirin hanging around in your medicine cabinet, you may be able to put it to good use even if you haven't had a headache in a while. Aspirin (real aspirin, like Bayer, not ibuprofen or acetaminophen) can help flowers live longer, remove stains and ease the sting of bug bites. Check out the unusual but helpful uses DIY Life has put aspirin to.

  1. Flower Power: crush a few aspirin tablets using the back of a spoon and add the powder to a vase filled with water. The salicylic acid from the aspirin will help keep the water clean and help your freshly cut flowers stay longer!

  2. Stain Removal: for sweat stains, crush a couple of aspirin and mix them into a half a cup of warm water. Use this mixture to saturate the stain for a few hours, then wash the clothing as you would. For egg stains, scrape off as much of the stain as you can, then make a paste of crushed aspirin and water. Spread the paste over the stained area and work it in with a soft toothbrush. Rinse it with warm water to finish.

  3. Pest Control: you can soothe the itch of a mosquito bite or a bee sting by wetting a pill of aspirin and setting it directly on the bite.

It will also help clear acne. Just wet it to form a paste then apply to the problem area.

It's not just good for cut flowers --- it's good for all plants, especially at transplanting time.
