Simple Tip to Extend the Life of Your Washer

Submitted by: Fru-gal Lisa  07/26/2010 3:40 PM

My cousin used to own and operate some coin laundries, aka Laundromats. He told me to NEVER keep the lid on my washing machine closed when the washer was not in use. Laundromats never do this. The reason? An open lid will allow the moisture inside the washing machine's drum to evaporate. This will keep the interior from rusting -- and extend the life of the appliance by several years. If the lid is always closed, the moisture buildup could harm the washing machine.

Also put the detergent in first to disperse within the water for a few mins. THEN put your clothes in the washer. It equalizes the distribution of the liquifided detergent.
