There’s an adage that goes something like “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure.” Well, we came across one site that seeks to bring these two men (or women) together.
Freecycle.org is a non-profit, founded in 2003, that’s mission is to “build a worldwide gifting movement that reduces waste, saves precious resources & eases the burden on our landfills”.
Here’s how it works: You join a local group through Yahoo Groups (some local groups don’t require that you join, and some require that you must live in that region in order to join), and then simply surf the message board for items you’re looking for, or post items you want to give away. There’s no cost to any of the items that are listed.—everything is free! It’s very straightforward to use once you start navigating through a local Freecycle group.
You can search for your local group by going to Freecycle’s Browse Groups section of their website. There’s a clickable map of the United States on the left side of the page, along with a list of states on the right. The Freecycle concept can also be found in over 75 countries (click on the “other countries” link under “United States”).
