Periodically Review Policies with Your Agent

Submitted by: beebauer  08/03/2008 8:51 PM

Companies perform a review of your policy every few years so why don't you do a review of your company? I'm not talking about shopping around with other companies, you should stick with your current one if you're satisfied with the service. Just review your policy with your agent. In NY state companies have to make a request with the insurance board if they want to take a rate cut (or rate hike) Once completed, they can write new business using this new rate. In the case of a decrease, the company will not automatically move you to the better rated (meaning lower priced) product. So ASK! Remember to let him/her know about any renovations or improvements to your house-like a new kitchen, new roof, new furnace, updated your electrical box? your plumbing? Also try and get car and home at same company, multi-policy discounts are significant.

Also, your insurance rates can be more expensive if your credit score is low. If you improve your credit score, try to get your insurance rate reduced.
