Going to the Movies? Why Pay Full Price?

Submitted by:  08/11/2008 5:21 PM

A TipHero reader recently posted a tip about how to save money on movie tickets:

“I buy my movie tickets ahead of time on Angie's List. They offer the discounted ticket prices of $6.50 at AMC/Loews/General Cinemas and Regal Cinema/United Artists. I usually buy a six pack of tickets and use them throughout the year. Only catch -- you have to be a member of Angie's List, which is about $25/year (but well worth the price, as Angie's List provides a lot of value, particularly if you own your own home).”

This got us to thinking about other movie-going, money-saving tips posted here on TipHero, including other ways to save on movie tickets:

  • “...If you’re a frequent movie-goer and, in particular, if you tend to go to the same theater or same movie theater chain frequently, you should look into getting a movie club card...“

  • “...You can often find coupon codes for online movie ticket sellers, like Fandango.com and Moviefone.com...”

  • “...I have had a AAA membership … for many years but didn’t know until just recently that you can get discounts on movie tickets...”

  • “...consider going to movies in the morning. Some theater chains offer large discounts (I’ve seen over 50% off) on shows starting before noon...”

I don't know about where anyone else is, but in my area the AMC theaters have lowered their weekday prices to $4.oo !

The AMC moviegower cards have additional perks like free popcorn on certain days, for example.

The card is free. You can sign up for it on line.

Another tip. Go to the movies between 4PM-6 PM. It is a whole lot cheaper--usually between $4.00 and $5.50 based on what city and state you live in.

Some states even have a $1.00 and $2.00 show. Search your own city (High Point & Sedgefield, NC., Detroit, MI.
