Submitted by: Kira @ Tip Hero  12/10/2010 1:45 PM

One of the best ways to save money on groceries and meals is to use less meat. A plant-based diet is usually more budget-friendly. However, for you devoted meat-eaters out there, it may be hard to cut back on your meat intake. Here are a few diet suggestions from Wise Bread for making it easier:

Include Protein Alternatives in Your Diet:

There are definitely ways that a meat lover can enjoy and fill up on tofu-based meals. Just give some of these recipes a chance. You can also check out this article that talks about creating frugal meals with peanut butter. If you're a fan of beans, you could also try lentil recipes and/or this great Lebanese black-eyed pea salad.

Come Up With Hearty Alternatives:

The problem that a lot of meat-eaters have with a plant-based diet is that they never feel satisfied after meals. Try these very filling and satisfying vegan sandwiches for lunch and 8 meatless dish recipes for dinner.

Remember other sources of protein too...like eggs. They're good for any meal and not just breakfast. For breakfast, I like to cook regular oatmeal then add a spoon full of peanut butter along with my sweetener. It dissolves when stirred but gives the oats a wonderful nutty flavor.

Use TVP. But, here's a tip: When re-hydrating the TVP, add some flavor by mixing in some powdered Taco, Sloppy Joe, or Fajita seasoning seasoning mix.
