I just remind myself that frugality isn't a religion. I'm not going to hell for splurging now and again. For that I put aside some "Mad money" to spend on treats.

I remember to treat myself every once in a while. Saving up means that it's okay to splurge on a massage twice a year.

For me, it only takes a tiny treat to relieve frugal fatigue. A Frappucino, for instance. My husband gave me a Starbucks gift card for Christmas, so now I can treat myself with no guilt (after all, I'm not spending cash). Along the same lines, I save up all my reward points from taking online surveys and cash them in for gift cards that I'm allowed to spend on fun rather than practical items--new clothes, for instance, or books and board games.

I also like to make cheap or free pleasures part of my regular routine. Some examples include library books, fresh flowers from my own garden, and a cup of hot cocoa every morning. That way, I don't have to spend money (or at least not much of it) to feel pampered.

I live vicariously through others. I enjoy friends company when they are shopping. This way I enjoy shopping but do not spend any money on anything we do not need or have not budgeted for.

A bottle of champagne works every time-there are some nice ones for under $15. Cheers!

My biggest treat was buying a fancy scented liquid handsoap in its own dispenser. It was on clearance after Christmas, and I've been using it since! It matches my bathroom, too. I usually refill an old pump bottle with diluted dish detergent, so this was a real friviality! I love the smell (bayberry)!

I go out into my yard and look at all the items I've planted and what I've done to make my property self sufficient. The work I've done will produce food for years and years. I remember how long ago I planted everything and tell myself how much the next person that lives on this property is going to appreciate what I've done because they don't have to start from scratch. They can reap the rewards immediately instead of having to wait years for something to grow and produce.
