Saving Energy When Using a Dishwasher

Submitted by: anonymous  09/21/2008 9:56 PM

I have figured out my dishwasher cycle is approximately 67 minuets long. When I start a load I set the timer for 67 minutes. When it has finished washing I open the door, shake the top rack (to remove any standing water)and then prop the door ajar with a large utensil, i.e. spatula, wooden spoon. The difference between the room temperature air and the warm air in the dishwasher causes just enough draft to dry the dishes without using the dry cycle thus saving energy.

I have a heat button on mine, and you can shut it off. It also has a sensor, to sense how much of load you have to save water/energy. I also try and use the lite load button, or a glassware cycle if it is almost all cups. I also always only run it when it is full.

I try to open the door right away - when it's finished...letting the heat into the kitchen to warm the air.
