Even though it's not as convenient, use the local bread stores! They are waaaay cheaper than buying at your grocery store!

We shop our local Orawheat store and get the bread that is $3.79 ON AVERAGE FOR $1.29 and at times even as little as $.89 each.

We will spend $25.00 and leave the store filling our medium size chest freezer with bread for two months at a time.

We swear by it!

What if you don't like the taste of thawed bread? I always seem to be able to taste the freezer in the loaf, or in the consistency of the bread. Unfortunately, for this reason, when I stop at my Pepperidge Farm outlet store, I end buying only 1 or 2 items.

My local "day Ole" bread store are the same price as Wal-Mart. Not all bread stores are the same.

You can stop the taste of "frozen" bread by putting a piece of paper towel over the top of the loaf (inside the bag). When thawed it tastes fresh.

Hey Tiffany,

No question is ever dumb. One place you can find a bakery outlet is by visiting bakeryoutlets.com. They have a zipcode locator where you just enter your zipcode and you are provided with the address of a bakery outlet near you.

Another option is to simply type the term "bakery outlet" and the name of your city into the google search box. The search result will generally return the website or physically address of a bakery outlet in your city.

Hope this helps =)

I've been a restaurant chef all my life. We always keep bread on a rack in storage rooms. At home tho i don't like to keep bread because it turns before i can eat it all myself. I don't like to freeze it, but if i do i like to use it as toast and it tastes fine. To keep it fresh better i just make room in the refridge and it lasts a couple weeks vs. 3 or 4 days...
