it's so easy to just make homemade. whenever we have them (i have a large family)we just freeze the extras. we have a ziploc freezer bag or two already in the freezer and we just add to it. we do the same with muffins. fast food. voila!

Liz I make my waffles from scratch too. I haven't worked out the cost but I suspect it isn't very much. I always have flour, baking powder, etc. I freeze my waffles in a freezer bag between sheets of wax paper. I don't make my own syrup though. I'm addicted to maple! :P

This also works with pancakes. I make up a batch and then put 2 into zip loc sandwich bags together. 30 seconds in the microwave thaw/heats one.

I've been doing this for years, too. Making them from scratch is very cheap and the kids love waffles or pancakes for breakfast. I make my own syrup and can it. I've made chokecherry this year and have plum and peach juice frozen to make syrup and jelly on a snowy day. I don't buy pancake syrup or jelly anymore, homemade is so good!

For a feather lite waffle, separate the eggs, add the yolks to the batter, then beat the whites until they hold a peak, and fold them into the batter just before baking them. As for homemade syrup. I learned this recipe from my Mother about 60 years ago when I started cooking. 1 cup of water to 2 cups of brown sugar. Bring to a boil and let it simmer over medium heat and cook down a little to thicken if you don't like thin syrup. Add a teaspoon of Mapleine flavoring, and a Tablespoon of butter (optional)
