Make Your Own Face, Hair & Body Lotion

Submitted by: lizzysmith  10/07/2008 2:51 PM

It's pretty simple so you may want to kick yourself for not coming up with it...

Anyway, all beauty products have the same basic and natural ingredients: Olive Oil, Joba Oil, Coconut Oil, Honey, Sunflower oil.... (you can get all of this at a wholefoods store (in bulk) and pretty darn cheap compared with beauty products today. You make a little at a time to keep it fresh and you always have what you need on hand or you can spend $8 for hand lotion and $35 for moisturizer for your face and $20 for your hair glossing (and that's per month, usually).

The coconut oil is about $8 and you can eat it, cook with it, and rub it all over ...same with the olive oil, and honey. Just puruse the internet for other ideas and you will see why this works.

Ok, here's the easy part:

Take a bit of each, mix well, put it in a recycled container (the honey could be warmed to mix...or add other ingredients of choice like essential oils for smell (personally, I love the smell the way it is)

THEN: put on your hair for shine and conditioning, put on your face for nutrition and smoothing of wrinkles, and rub as an all-over body lotion. I keep mine in the frig so it solidifies

I made a very good body cream with the following recipe.

2tablespoons non edible 100% coconut oil for skin only(brand is "now")
2cups 100% cocoa butter (Brand is "NOW")
a teaspoon of 100% almond oil (brand is "now")

add 16 drops of 100% pure essential oils
I used Lavender for my first batch.

My second batch was 10 drops orange oil and 6 drops sandlewood.

step1-melt coconut oil and mix with cocoa butter.

Step2-mix essential oils into almond oil. add to cocoa butter/coconut oil mix and mix very well.

I place the finished product in two clean empty jars.
The jars were the empty jars from the cocoa butter and the coconut oil.

Some of the best body cream I have used.

I find the Lavender to be soothing and the Orange makes me feel refreshed.
*** I hope this helped.

Here is a great tip to make a homemade beauty bath.

3 cups epsom salts
2 tablespoons melted coconut oil for skin only
(by the brand "now")
add no more than 16 drops of what ever combo of scents you choose.(using 100% pure essential oils)
then mix well
place in sealed container(think a cool whip container or an old clean peanut butter jar)

use one handful per warm bath.

scent combos I like are

16 drops straight lavender

or

6 drops orange
6 drops rose absolute
3 drops sandlewood.

also if you have eczema you may want to try a milder recipe.

same epsom salt amount
same coconut oil amount.
except use 100% extra virgin organic edible coconut oil versus the just for skin type.
and do not use essential oils.
I use this on a my daughter who has eczema. same as before one handful in warm bath and it works very well.
then I normally but the same coconut oil just directly on her skin.
This has shown her much improvement. wont cure eczema but it will improve it.

yes, you can find these in health food stores folks; sometimes you can locate in regular stores as well: we have a store in Ashland that carries them as well as bring your container & fill for organic shampoos etc; might also check out a "craft" store such as Michaels; & if all else fails locally go to www.vitacost.com; I am fairly sure you will be able to order these from there; the best thing of all is that irregardless of amount or # of items ordered the S&H is always the same, so if you order with a group which is what I do from Azure Standard, you can find raw organic honey by the gallon for $23.00!!!!! & also spices at a superb price as well; (many different companies are thru this one company each with their own "products" & prices! Be sure to check all the companies you can order thru this one company to get best price!

Does anyone have a "recipe" for making your own shower gel/body wash? It's so expensive - I've tried using bubble bath but it needs to be a bit thicker than that to use with a sponge or net scrubbie.

To the person asking about body wash - I buy cheap shampoo for $1.00/less per bottle and just use that. :)

I use cheap shampoo for body wash, too, and cheap conditioner for shaving, rather than shaving cream/foam.
