Simple Trick for Not Forgetting Your Keys

Submitted by: Tip Hero  08/12/2011 2:15 PM

You may not think that think that this tip will save you that much money, but it could possibly save you in key replacement and/or having a professional come out to get you into your house. Here's a great trick from homedit to help you never forget your keys again:

Simply remove the switch plate and place a small neodymium magnet in the light switch. Replace the plate and voila it's magnetized! In the image above you can see that they placed the magnet inside the switch but you could also tape the magnet to the back of the switch plate.

Thanks to Apartment Therapy for the heads up!

I don't understand this tip. How does a magnet in a light switch help you not to forget your keys?

You don't understand this tip? It's the same principle used when you go to wash a pair (or several pairs of socks) and want to have all the matches there when you take them out of the drier. The trick? Put a tennis ball inside your mailbox! The principle? Darned if I know, this never worked for me and don't see how a magnet inside a light switch helps not to forget your keys!

well, being somewhat brillant myself, AND...
to explain this unique tip to all of my
"less brillant" tip fans, DUH...do this
magnet thing by the light swith you must
pass by as you prepare to leave your house
and hang your key(s) on that switch! Then...
as you start out the door you will see the
keys hanging on the switch plate and say
to yourself..."oh yeah! my keys!" Now...if
you don't want to expose yourself to the
underside of your switch plate, you can achieve
the same results by attaching a strong magnet
to several 3' lengths of steel chain, make
several copies of your key(s) and attach them
to the door frame of every exit door in your
home. Now...keep your keys in your hand when
you come back inside so you will remember to
hang them back up when you move the chain aside
so that you may walk inside your home! Am I
clever or am I clever!

I just lock the doors with keys instead of by pushing the buttons. You cannot forget your keys that way.

I hide various wrong keys around to entertain thieves. Only I know the where the real emergency key is hidden.
