Wedding Gown Bargain Found at a "Next to New" Shop

Submitted by: anonymous  10/29/2008 12:43 PM

I bought my wedding gown, veil, petticoat and bustier bra (all brand new) from a "next to new" shop, and with alterations included, everything I wore cost less than $600, excluding the shoes. I chose to wear white low sneaker type shoes ($20) under the gown, so my feet were comfortable.

My youngest daughter and I were out one Saturday about 6 months before her wedding, we were going to yard sales, garage sales and thrift stores as we usually did in the spring. She had not decided on a gown yet and since she was 4'11" and about 98lbs it was really going to be expensive with all the altering that would be needed. We went into a thrift store and there hanging on the wall was a beautiful wedding gown, she kept looking at it and saying how beautiful it was - well she tried it on just for fun and believe it or not, it was a perfect fit!
It looked as though it had been made for her

Cost? $25 We had it cleaned and she was a beautiful bride!

My daughter bought her wedding dress for $75 at an outlet store. I did some alterations-ripped off the sleeves and bows. I used the ripped off sleeves to make the bodices of the two flower girl dresses. We got tons of compliments on her gorgeous dress.

for my niece when she got married she used my wedding gown. As I am a lot taller than she my mom cut off and tapered to back the front to her length and then left the total length in the back which gave her a little train. she got several compliments on her gown and gave the gown a whole new look. her cost was nothing and she was a beautiful bride.

I lived in a town that had a "Free Store." Everything was free. I donated any clothes or items I didn't need and would pick up what they had that I did need. And they had a beautiful wedding gown for me that fit perfectly. It now hangs decoratively on my wall.

TRy the Salvation army and make it a weekly 5 minute stop. I see beautiful gowns all the time. Some are vintage and some are current designer dresses.
