3-Prong Approach Keeps Ants at Bay

Submitted by: sandy the saver  05/28/2008 4:19 PM

I read somewhere about a 3-pronged approach, where they said to use bait inside the house, as well as bait outside the house, and then a spray around the exterior of the house. Supposedly, the spray keeps them off of your home, and the outdoor bait works similar to the indoor bait in that the ants eat it and then brings it back to the nest for the rest of the colony and kills them that way. I think you can buy the sprays and outdoor bait at hardware stores and places like Lowe’s and Home Depot and aren’t very expensive (and still cheaper than hiring someone to take care of the problem for you).

I also read somewhere that if you use chalk or talcum powder, cornstarch or baby powder it helps to keep ants away. The ants won't cross over the powder. Worth a try. Then you won't have to use the spray.

A good ant killer "bait", is Tarro. You can buy it, or make your own.

Borax (laundry isle) and corn syrup. Mix it up, to form a syrup. Place on a small piece of cardboard.

Borax is poisonous to pets and children.

FOR BUGS UNDER THE HOUSE, I BUG THE FOGGERS, LIKE YA USE IN THE HOUSE AND WHERE THE VENTS ARE AROUND THE FOUNDATION I CLOSE THEM UP AND USE THE FOGGER AT A VENT....IT WILL NOT HURT YA TO TAKE A FOGGER AND SHAKE IT AND PUSH THE TAB AND HOLD IT AGAINST THE OPEN VENT AND LET IT SPRAY UNDER THE HOUSE AND CLOSE THE VENT AND THEN MOVE HALF WAY AROUND THE HOUSE AND DO ANOTHER CAN......SURE HELPS TO FOG THE BUGS, SPIDERS, ECT, BEFORE THEY CAN COME IN YOUR HOUSE.

What I heard is that borax is an irritant. The bug clean so hard to get the borax off that they wear a hole in their shell and die of infection.

When ever I open a wall, I throw in hand fulls of borax. I've never had a bug problem, before or after, but it is a cheap thing to do.
