Every once in a while I come across a savings opportunity so compelling I immediately start phoning my friends about it. This is one of those opportunities.
Earlier this year Microsoft introduced a new incentive to get people to use their Live.com search engine over competing search engines. In partnership with certain online stores they began offering cashback rewards if you clicked through specific search advertisements on Live.com featuring the cashback emblem and make a purchase within a specified period of time.
One of these cashback partners is Ebay. They are currently offering a 25% cashback reward if you click through an Ebay ad on Live.com that features the cashback emblem and make a purchase through Ebay’s “Buy it Now” option within 60 minutes and pay with PayPal. Only certain ads feature the cashback reward. I’ve found ones for Ebay searching the terms “e bay” and “online auctions”. Here's an example:
I recently purchased a lot of 6 t-shirts on Ebay for $44.99 and earned $11.25 cashback through this program. I also bought a gold coin and received a $200 cashback reward. I’ve heard of others buying postage stamps below the 42 cent face value.
In order to take advantage of the Live.com cashback rewards on Ebay you will need Ebay, PayPal, and Live.com Cashback accounts. All three are free to open and can be setup rather quickly.
When making a large purchase on Ebay keep in mind to check the sellers feedback ratings. I would never make a large purchase from a seller that has very little feedback for items of similar value.
For more details on the Live.com Ebay cashback program and to read about others experiences with this program you can check out this post on SlickDeals.net
Also make sure to read both Microsoft and Ebay’s terms and conditions on the cashback program. I’ve included some of the finer points below for your convenience but it is not complete and terms and conditions are subject to change, so make sure you go straight to the official source for complete and up-to-date details.
Here are some of the finer points of the program:
You must successfully complete an eligible purchase on www.eBay.com using "Buy-It-Now" within sixty (60) minutes after you click on an eBay paid search advertisement marked with the Live Search cashback logo (such sixty (60) minute period shall be referred to herein as an "Online Session")
You must pay within 30 days using Paypal.
Microsoft will release payment after 60 days. Editors Note: I believe they have this holding period to keep people from buying something, earning the cashback, and returning it.
Microsoft will release payment once you have earned $5 in cashback rewards.
The Ebay cashback reward will be limited to $200 per session.
You may receive cashback rewards for up to a maximum of twelve (12) Online Sessions per ebay account.
Rewards earned in connection with purchases on www.eBay.com) are subject to the annual $2,500.00 per user cap. Editors Note: It’s actually a $2400 cap given you can only have 12 sessions and $200 max per session.
Live Search cashback rewards are not available on purchases of gift cards or gift certificates or on purchases you make from yourself or entities that you control or in collusion with other people.
