Driver Safety Courses May Help Lower Your Car Insurance Premiums

I've heard that you can get discounts on auto insurance if you take a driver safety course. I've only heard of these discounts applying to drivers under the age of 21 (see this example in Georgia: http://www.georgia-autoinsurance.com/reduce.html) or if you're 50+ years old (see this example from AARP, which by the way is offering a discounted rate in November on the online course: http://www.aarp.org/families/driver_safety/driver_safety_online_course.html).

I think the discount also depends on the state (I'm not sure if all states allow for a discount if drivers complete a driver safety course). It's worth looking into to see if your state qualifies.

In terms of the savings, in Georgia it looks like you can save up to 15% if you're under the age of 21 and complete a course. I've read that you can qualify for similar discount amounts if you're 50 or older. I've also read that, in general, you can qualify for up to a 10% discount on your premium regardless of your age. I don't for sure if you can get a safe driver discount between the ages of 21 and 50, but it's definitely worth checking with your auto insurance company to see if you qualify.
