Clever Ways to Reuse Old Clothing

Submitted by: Tip Hero  09/19/2011 4:08 PM

Old clothing has a million different uses around the home. You can make other clothing out of it or you can utilize it in helpful ways around the home. Take a look at a few great ideas from Frugal Dad that you may not have thought of yet:

  • Book Cover: immortalize a certain pair of jeans by making them into the cover of a scrapbook or journal.

  • Make Ropes: tie together a few strips of old clothing to make ropes for the garden or garage. Use to straighten plants or organize a bunch of papers.

  • Dust Off Your Car: use old clothes to dust off the interior of your car and wash the tires and exterior of your car as well.

  • Be a Home Fashion Designer: make accessories like headbands, hair ties, bracelets, necklaces and belts. Think ahead toward Christmas and start crossing friends and family off of your list by making great homemade gifts now.

Check out many more creative ideas over at Frugal Dad's Reusing Old Clothes to Save Money.

I love flannel PJ's but hate the tops, I like short sleeves even in winter. The stores sell flannel but it is so thin it can not keep you warm. I go to second hand stores and buy used and very cheap top sheets (about $2.00)bottoms wear out faster so there is always a top sheet somewhere. I make my own PJ bottoms, I then buy some nice matching T shirts for the tops usually less than a dollar each.
The sheet makes a few pair for that money and they fit perfectly.
