It's that time of year again. You've probably already started pulling out sweaters, coats, scarves and all those happy clothing items that we associate with winter. But do you have enough clothing to get you through the season? Check out some tips for updating your winter wardrobe without blowing your budget:
Make Simple Alterations
You don't even need a sewing machine to make simple alterations on garments. You could easily cut the collar off of a shirt to give it a new look or dye clothes a different color. Take stock of the boring clothes you already own and find small ways that you can upgrade them.
This is a great way to add warmth, but also a great way to add variety to your outfits. For example, wearing a dressy blazer or jacket with jeans is a create way to combine dressy and casual clothing to create a new look. Layering is also a good way to make solid colored clothing more exciting.
Add Some Neckwear
Scarves, shawls and neckties can keep you warm and completely transform any outfit. Check out thrift stores and stores like T.J. Maxx that sell items like this very cheaply.
Glean from Fashion Mags
Not sure what to do with your wardrobe, or where to even start? Browse some popular fashion magazines, or scan through the fashion section in newspapers to get some ideas before you start shopping around or trading in that sweater you thought you'd never wear again. There may be something you can do with the items you already have that you hadn't thought of. Checking out the fashion world can give you a better idea of what to look for when you shop, which helps when you are on a tight budget.
