Additional Gas Savings at Costco

Submitted by: april_cooks  11/21/2008 2:39 PM

I'm an Executive member at Costco meaning I earn a small percentage on all purchases except gasoline. I try to operate on a cash budget which their gas station doesn't take. I buy Costco gift cards and load them with my gas money then use the gift cards at the pump. I'm sticking with my cash budget and the gift card purchase counts toward my annual rebate where if I buy gas at the station with my debit card I don't earn the rebate.

Try getting a Costco/American Express credit card. Forbusiness users you get 5% cash back on gas, 3% on restaurants and 1% on everything else. They have a regular card if you have no business and get 3% - 2% and 1% respectively!

I went to my local Costco and they told me that Costco gift card purchases do NOT qualify for the 2% Executive Membership rebate. It's also spelled out in the Executive Membership brochure they gave me. Sounds like American Express card is the best way to earn any rebate.

American Express Card is the best way to earn rebates at Costco. I use the card as a debit/credit card esp. for gasoline at Costco. I'm set up online with the Amex account as well as my banker/checking account. Whenever I want (usually before it's due) I just pay the amounts I charged on the Amex card with my checking account all online.

I don't have to drive to drive to the bank to pay for Amex charges, so I'm saving money by not doing extra driving and by buying good cheaper gas at Costco, as well as earning money back in the form of a check annually from Amex when I do this. Woo hoo.
