Print Office Documents on Reused Paper

Submitted by: dorismartin  11/22/2008 2:41 PM

Each week I print out a list of pending projects for the office and give a copy to each of my co-workers. Since it is an internal reference document, I print it on perfectly good paper--office misprints--salvaged from the recycling bin. I figure this saves us 15 sheets of paper a week--so over the year 780 sheets of paper! That is more than a ream of paper (500 sheets in a ream--about $6.29/year). I actually print most internal documents on recycled paper and always double sided.

Just be very careful that the other side of the paper does not have complete names or social security numbers on it. We do this in our office, and have for several years. HOWEVER, since this is an office where we prepare income tax returns we must be very, very careful of what we are printing our information ON!

I'm a retired 3rd grade teacher.
For years I'd recycle papers from the overrun stack or misprints of other staff, and use the backs to print additional math practice sheets for my students. That could vary from 25 to 100 pages per week. The kids enjoyed it when sometimes the papers were different colors, and they always liked to see what was on the back!

Now that I'm retired, I take all the copied sheet music that our church choir is finished with and I use the backs of it to print out meeting agendas for our Lions club. I print 15 copies each for three meetings a week, so that's 45 sheets of paper- times 50 weeks a year (we skip a few meetings during holidays) so that amounts to a couple thousand-plus pages a year, or more than 4 reams. It adds up!

I do the same thing. Our school is allotted a limited amount of paper for the year and we often run out of paper because so much is wasted. I get all of my paper from the recycling bin. My co-workers often print way more than they need and will just toss the extra in the trash.

Now all of my students homework assignments are printed on the back side of overruns of other classes homework. The kids love it. I find that many of them do the other classes homework just for the fun of it.

I use the notices that the kids bring home from school and the junk mail I receive and put it to good use. We print out coupons, recipes, direction or anything else that we don't have to send off.

I have three kids so lots of paper so we also have a clip board full of this paper that we use the backs of for homework, notes, grocery lists etc. It is amazing how quickly I have seen a reduction in the amount of paper I am buying. It also makes me feel good to know I am helping the environment.
