Save Money - Beware of Bundled Services

Submitted by: anonymous  11/25/2008 2:07 PM

Avoid Bundles
Advertisers may create a “need” that might not really exist for you. If you’re a cost- conscious consumer, look closely at how much you’re paying for popular, but often pricey, bundle packages that include phone, cable and Internet. It may be easier to pay all-on-one bill, but it doesn't allow you the flexibility to choose the best individual services that fit your lifestyle. Nor will a bundle provide the flexibility to adapt your services based on lifestyle or location changes. Also, promotional pricing may exist initially, but the price may go up while you’re still locked into your bundle. So, you may not need all the “bells and whistles” or restrictions of a high-cost bundle. In fact, if you opt for options like Freestanding DSL for your Internet access, you might be able to ditch your home phone altogether. More info at www.earthlink.net

I agree, I recently swithched to Magic Jack. My cable service was charging me from $68 - $200 for their phone service. I have High Speed anyway so why not make it pay, you can't beat $19 A YEAR FOR HOME PHONE SERVICE!!

i dont agree with this one- embarq was charging me 90.00 a month phone service with highspeed internet. was able to bundle and get free long distance added for nothing. since i was always worried about the cost of long distance and my children live 8-12 hours away they weren't hearing from me very often. now we talk almost daily. i think it might be a good deal if you currently use the services they bundle and can add them together and come up with less of a payment.

Bundle was best for me as we don't watch tv, dvds instead. Have DSL and land phone. Cheaper than both separate or both with different company. You really need to check out what would be best for your needs, but don't be a sucker for just any bundle deal.
