How to Make Your Own Mini Taco Bowls

Submitted by: Tip Hero  02/20/2012 12:18 PM

Does your family have a taco night every week? Mini taco bowls, made with the help of some muffin tins, could easily make this cheap weeknight meal even better:

Here's how you do it:

  • Take some 6-inch tortillas, sprinkle them with water and stack them on a plate. Cover the top of the stack of tortillas with another plate (turned upside down) and microwave for a minute or so until warm.

  • Turn over as many muffin tins as you need. Mist each side of your tortillas with some cooking spray and center between the space between 4 muffin cups (creating bowls as pictured above). Repeat with the rest of your tortillas.

  • Bake in the oven for about 8-10 minutes. Let bowls cool before filling them with yummy things like cheese, taco sauce, shredded lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, etc.

Thank you! What an excellent creative money-saving tip!! I will definitely try this. We can buy a package of 30 corn 6" tortillas at Aldi for $1.19. A package of 12 taco shells at Aldi is $.99. The next time I have the oven on I will bake up some of these taco "bowls" to have on hand. Corn tortillas have many uses in a gluten-free diet as well (pizza crust, wrap for all kinds of sandwiches, homemade tortilla chips, etc.)so I keep them in my pantry. Good deal all the way around!
