| I don't drive more than 3,000 miles per year. My present car is 19 years old. To save the car from rusting out, I oil them on the inside. First, park the car for a week or so where oil dripping will not cause a hazard. I then get a couple of quarts of 5-10 wt motor oil. I squirt oil all over the underside of the car. I even remove screws on the inside and squirt oil inside the doors and fenders. You will notice the oil drip out and they by capillary action draw UP the outside of the doors. If the oil goes up the outside of the doors, then it is going up on the inside of your doors. The oil will also lay where the rain water collects in you car. One caution. I have no idea if there would be any harm done to power windows. I never had a car with power windows. Now wash the car down. In the coming weeks you will have to wash it again because the oil will continue to come out and UP your car for serveral weeks. If you notice rust, get on the backside of it with oil. Most rust is from the inside out where the water lays and not the outside in. |
