Disposing of Disposable Diapers

Submitted by: anonymous  12/01/2008 9:49 PM

Having raised 4 children during an era of cloth diapers I was eccsatic to find disposable diapers available when the grandchildren started arriving!!
However, working in such a hectic world it wasn't always convenient to get the soiled diaper out to the garbage as soon as I'd have liked. Thus, a quandry as to where to store it in the mean time.

One day as I was reading our daily Free Press I came across an idea to use the plastic sleeve the paper came in each morning. Now I store those "sleeves" in the diaper changing area of my home and after inserting the soiled diaper I tye the bag closed so as to trap the odor until I am able to dispose of the bag properly. Even the older children think it's "cool" that they can "help out" without worrying about getting their hands soiled!!!!

My mom has been saving the newspaper sleeves for grandbabies for years and she stuffs them in empty kleenex boxes which fit neatly next to the diapers on the changing table!

I have also used bread sacks.

I have always saved my wal-mart plastic bags for diaper disposal. I always have a lot of them . I tie them loosely in a knot to make them easy to grab one out of the box they are stored in. I untie and put soiled diaper in and tie handles in a knot to close. It is also very easy to double layer if the smell is overwhelming. I don't buy the paper or that much bread so these bags are readily available and way cheaper than a "DIAPER GENIE" ever would be.

I have also found that the Dollar Tree sells a box of 100 dirty diaper bags. That's only 1 cent each, put dirty diaper in bag & tie shut. Also is scented to mask odors. At a penny each, these last a while.
