If it's available in your area, try cricKet. You can use your current phone(if you had Sprint or Verizon) though you will have to pay to get it "flashed". Most dealers are pretty reasonable with their prices plus it's cheaper than buying a new phone. Currently for talk, text, picture messaging and internet(all unlimited)I pay about $50-55 including taxes. There are less expensive plans available, as low as $30 if you don't plan to use picture messaging or internet. |

Tracfone works well for my son. It runs about
$30.00 a month for him to talk & text his friends. It doesn't require a plan contract and
you pay as you go. |

I don't want to use a cell phone except in an emergency. Tracfone is the best deal for me. I bought a phone and a gob of minutes for a little over $100 for a whole year of using it. The minutes never expire. I'll have to buy a year of service once a year. Before you go to Tracfone.com, Google for a promo code. |

net10.com is only .10 cents a minute
with purchase of a new phone usually comes 2 months service and 300 minutes
or if you already have a net10 phone card costs 30.00 every 2 months for 300 minutes and text is .5 cents a minute minutes roll over as long as you keep phone current no contracts

We also have Tracfones - 3 in all. They cost our family a total of about $11 a month! We buy the year cards and the double minutes for the life of the phone cards. I'm sure when our daughter gets a little older and all of her friends also have phones it will cost a bit more, and we certainly don't live on our cell phones. This has been the perfect option for us - very reasonable and we each have our own phone when we need it. |

We really like sprint. If you know a few people who are looking to get/change their phones you can all go in on a family plan. You don't actually have be family. One person pays about $40 but everyone else only pays $10 per month (for about 300 minutes plus free nights and weekends, starting at 7 and free sprint to sprint). Thats with no text and no internet though. But its perfect for us. |

Virgin Mobile is great with unlimited texting for $19.99 a month. We have had Tracfone and Net10 but I think Virgin Mobile is the best. |

If, and only if, you just want a phone to call 911, companies are required to activate your phone and allow it to be used for 911. But remember, you can't call any other number. It just won't let you!!! |

We have alltel prepaid, which is ok if everyone you know is on alltel, but it's not really an option anymore since Verizon took over and are phasing them out.
We are planning on going to boost mobile. they have a plan that you can get unlimited text, mobile to mobile, internet, and call any number for $50/mo. they have no roaming charges--if you have signal, it's included. and telecom taxes are already included in the $50. so, you may pay local/state taxes on your refill amounts, but no hidden taxes. my husband knows a couple people in our area with them and they're happy. downside: only motorola phones, not known for long battery life, but for the great deal, it may be worth it. can't really speak to how good their customer service is, but then alltel's is pretty rotten, too, so i don't know that it could get much worse. you might check them out in your area, or at least read the reviews on them. just google "cell phone plan reviews" and a couple sites should come up.
if you want to check out boostmobile.com, i read the fineprint on the unlimited deal... pretty nifty... |

I have switched to Consumer Cellular. It's advertised in AARP magazine but you don't have to belong to AARP to join, although if you are a member you do get a discount. Very reasonable rates, no contract and you can change your plan whenever you want. Very easy to enroll. |

I love TracFone. I have a "Double Minutes for Life" deal on mine and it adds up to about ten dollars a month for all my calls. The coverage is great and in my four-plus years of using it, I've had only two or three dropped calls. Best one out there, imo. |

If you use TracFone watch for sales on their phones. They run specials twice a year where you get a camera phone & double minutes for life for under $20.00. You do have to buy a minutes card to activate the first time but it is worth it. Make sure you read the charges if you want to use the internet on some of their models because that is also available too. The nice thing about their set up is you only have to buy minutes every ninety days if you get the bare bones & that is under $20.00. |

Cincinnati Bell prepaid. Bought phone $30. Prepaid $20 (at 10 cents a minute) good for 90 days. Buy another $20 before initial 90 days is up and any unused minutes roll over. Total for the year $80 for 800 minutes. Works for me. |
