The Costs of Cooling Your Home

Submitted by: discount_Larry  06/01/2008 6:21 PM

There’s a great tool I found on a website that lets you calculate the electric cost of AC, fans, etc.:

michaelbluejay.com/electricity/howmuch.html. It’s a really cool site that has lots of good info on all of this stuff.

This widget shows the following cost on a per year basis for using a device 24 days/month for the 5 hottest months of the year, and for 8 hours per day:

- Ceiling fan (48”): $7
- AC window unit (small): $47
- AC window unit (large): $136
- Central AC: $336

My husband and I thought window units actually cost more than central. Is that not true.
