Check Business-to-Business Resources for Low Prices

Submitted by: cloudbreakchick  12/15/2008 7:30 PM

I'm responsible for a lot of purchasing with my job, and I notice that a lot of times business-to-business (B2B) resources have fantastic prices.

For example: If you were looking for a shipping box at Staples, one that is 20x8x8 (I just picked a random one for this example), you would pay $30.49 for 25 of them.

Head over to Uline.com, a popular business supply company but one that doesn't require a Tax ID or business number, and you'll pay $14.25 for the same number. That's over a 50% savings.

Another place where you can find great deals is the promotional item websites, like marcopromotionalproducts.com, 4imprint.com, and pricelessimprinters.com. These companies often run specials on giveaway type items, some of which are great for kids' parties or teachers on a tight budget. The prices they post are usually for the imprinted items, so make sure you call for a quote on regular stock items (unless you want the imprint, and then shop around!). This is also a great way to get gifts for large groups of people, as they typically have better deals than your Walmart (but maybe not your dollar store!). Usually their quantities are a little higher than the average person needs, but for a situation that calls for it, it's definitely worth the extra few minutes online.

Another great gift place is DiscountMugs.com. Their 1-color imprint is free (additional colors come at a cost) and are great for parties, family reunions, or generic gifts (a mug filled with candy at Christmas, anyone?)... or weddings! You can absolutely use these resources to help plan your wedding.

Lastly, a resource that I use often for work is DollarDays.com. This is a supply company, but I haven't had them require any sort of business verification yet. These guys usually supply the dollar stores, and their quantities are VERY large (mostly!) but this can be a REALLY great resource for teachers.

The way I usually find things at work is to go to my google (or any other one that you prefer) search engine and type in "(name of product) discount" and check out all the listings. I try the same thing with "(name of product) wholesale" and sometimes even try "cheap" in there too.

A few minutes spent with a search engine can save you a ton of money.

Thanks for the great tip. Always good to find ways to save at the office. And as a funny aside--I used discount mugs for favors for my wedding 3years ago. We had a designer friend of ours do a simple design for the mug and included our wedding date. Our friends and family are still using their coffee mugs!

RE: Dollar Days Except for trinkets (trash) type of items there wasn't one item I can't find significantly cheaper at dozens of other places - even retail stores.
