Making the Most of Baby Wipes

Submitted by: juliann8301  12/29/2008 11:43 AM

When wiping a newborn baby's bottom, I've found that tearing a baby wipe (folded) in half works just as well as using the entire wipe - and it's easier to use because it's smaller.

How about, make your own baby wipes from Bounty or Brawny paper towels. We like to use the Bounty "select a size". Don't use a serrated knife which makes extra little bits so use a regular blade/knife. You cut a roll in 1/2 (kind of looks like 2 very fat rolls of TP). You'll pull up the wipes through the middle.

There are different recipes found online.

Need a plastic cyclinder shaped container with a lid...I use Rubbermaid serve & saver/10 cups.

Mix in a glass measuring cup: 2 c. warm water, 2 T baby shampoo (or any type that doesn't bother baby), 2 T baby oil & (optional 6 or 7 drops of lavender oil). Mix & pour over wipes. Remove cardboard tube...ready to use.

making your own baby wipes do work, instead of baby shampoo I just used the huggies body wash (and they have great scents), no oil for me.

We also use them to do some minor cleaning around the house because they are safe for the kids. I don't have worry about any dangerous chemicals or the dangerous fumes and kids really enjoy helping mom. I gives them a sense of pride and sets them up for future chores.

We had to switch to all natural cleaners because we have two prememmies who have allergies. I buy two extra pkgs every month just for them to help clean the house. Best investment ever. They now know if they make a mess where their wipes are & clean up their mess. Lessons in life are great. Great for mom!

If you have wipes that have dried out, add a little witch hazel to them, gentle to the skin and great for cleaning baby.
