I put them in a three ring zippered binder with sports card inserts. They are in alphabetical order with index tabs. The binder also has a calculator and pouch to hold the store ads. I do not consider myself an extreme couponer; but I have saved by having my coupons organized.

I used to sort them by those that never expired (all categories) and those that expired (monthly tabs, all categories under each month). Then I started hearing about saving the entire section by date so that these sites that tell you to get the $1 coupon for this and that is in the Red Plum or Proctor and Gamble or Savings source insert of (insert date here)...but it got overwhelming. Unfortunaltely I just keep a large pile and end up going through them over and over...at one time I would just cut out the ones I would or might use, disregarding the ones I'd never use (diapers, pain meds, make up...) then I got addicted to sites that told you how to get the deals at the drug stores so started saving the whole packs again...at this point I've got a pile that is sorted by product that I'm likely to buy but no order (oops!) and a pile of inserts. Wish I had a better system...

I alphabetize by brand name, however I don't buy many brand name items or convenience foods. My groceries are basic: flour, eggs, sugar, milk, meat. These items rarely have coupons. I make most of my own mixes or bake from scratch. I also buy mostly store brands.

I use a File Box with different categories, i.e. Drugstore, canned goods, Paper Products, Meat, Produce, Sauces, Mixes, Snacks, etc. I file the coupons by alphabetical order and date in each category and go through them each weekly grocery shopping trip and monthly. At the back of the box, I have a category for current. coupons. This works for me, perhaps, someone could refine it more. merry

I use a combination of several organization systems. The first thing I do is write the date on the front of each insert with a sharpie. Next I quickly scan each insert and clip the coupons I am likely to use. These are sorted alphabetically in a small accordion folder and placed in my purse so I always have them with me. The remaining coupon inserts are clipped together by date and placed in large accordion folder for later use. Each week I check my favorite coupon blog to see what is on sale, where it is on sale, and what I have a coupon for. Then I make my shopping list, pull the coupons I need (either from those already clipped or from my large file), and head out to save lots of money! I call myself a "not-so-extreme-couponer" because, although I have a small stockpile, I only buy what I can use within a reasonable time period. For example, I recently bought 4 large containers of oatmeal because with coupons I got them for 44 cents each. We eat a lot of oatmeal and will use these within 4 months. I have enough mustard, ketchup, shampoo and toothpaste to last at least that long too. I replace these things as they go on sale so I never have to pay full price. Couponing is a great way to save money and be prepared. Right now I am feeding a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 teens) for around $75 a week. But I have peace of mind knowing that if I don't have $75 for groceries next week I can still feed my family.

i am a semi extreme coupons(my family and friends thinks otherwise)..i have a stockpile and have been doing the coupon thing for 28yrs..i started with a white envelope, then an accordian type container, then a baby shoe box, then to the plastic shoe storage box i have had at least 25yrs..i made tabs of the categories of products that i use, female products, cleaning supplies, dairy, freebies, meats,etc..i carry this everywhere so i dont miss any surprise deals. i save at least 60% a month on my shopping and it has been a blessing.

I keep my coupons in a three ring binder divided in sections based on how my Kroger is organized. I use the baseball card holders to hold the coupons. It's so unique to me that I doubt anyone else could make heads or tails out of it. But it works! A couple of weeks ago I got 18 rolls of Brawny paper towels for 45 cents a roll. During my first year of couponing (2011) I saved over $4,000.
