I use vinegar to clean the soap scum off of my shower doors. I poured vinegar into an empty spray bottle & then sprayed it full strength on the shower doors & let it sit for about 5 minutes. I wiped off the vinegar & soap scum with a damp scouring sponge. It works great. |

When you mix baking soda and vinegar they react creating carbon dioxide(bubbles) and water, rendering the cleaner about as effective as washing with plain water. They are best used separately unlike this article implies. |

I've started using vinegar a lot for cleaning. Although the house smells like french fries at first, it goes away. Here's some tips I found from another article.
All- Purpose Cleaning ~ Soap & Vinegar
Mix one teaspoon of liquid soap with one quart warm water. Add a splash of vinegar to help cut grease.
Furniture Polish
Mix 1/4 cup of organic apple cider vinegar with a few drops of olive oil. If you are concerned about staining furniture, mix oil with white distilled vinegar instead of cider vinegar. Dip soft recycled cloth (e.g., flannel) in the vinegar and oil mixture, and wipe on furniture until absorbed.
Disinfect with Vinegar
The disinfectant properties of vinegar have been verified by numerous studies including those conducted by the Good Housekeeping Institute, as reported on 48 hours (on CBS) in 2000. A straight 5% solution of vinegar kills 99 percent of bacteria, 82 percent of mold, and 80 percent of viruses, however in the USA, it cannot be declare a disinfectant without registering it as a pesticide with the EPA. Having said that, mix distilled white vinegar (found in any supermarket) with water and keep spray bottles of this non-toxic disinfectant in your bathrooms and kitchen - to disinfect and clean.
Clean Tile, Wood or Vinyl Floors
Mix ½ cup white vinegar with one gallon water and mop floors. Buff with a soft cloth to revive shine. (Do not use Vinegar on marble).
Tub & Tile Cleanser ~ Baking Soda
Baking soda works like scouring powder. Use on tub, tile, basin in bathroom and kitchen. Rinse. Wash down with all-purpose cleaner (above).
Glass Cleaner ~ White Vinegar
Pour full strength white vinegar (or mix with water if you prefer) into a spray bottle to clean windows. Dry with soft cloth or old newspapers.
Clean Cutting Board ~ Vinegar or Lemon Juice
Wipe down cutting board with vinegar or lemon juice to cut grease and absorb food odors.
Clean Counter Tops
Wipe down with white vinegar to disinfect. (Do not use Vinegar on marble).
Club Soda Spot Remover
Club soda is a natural spot remove but treat as soon as it happens before it becomes a stain.

I keep three vingigars in my house...
Cheap red wine, cheap white distilled and pricey brags apple cider vinigar with the mother in it.
I use them for:Clearning up contact scalp dermatitus(rash/irratation)...To flavor my salad and to wash fruits and veggies.
Te details are below.
My daughter gets dermatitus of the scalp ....Sometimes she'll use something that will irritate the it will cause her scalp to rash up. like a new shampoo or product. We went to the doctor but the medicated shampoos would barely work or not at all.
I found by mixing 1 part apple cider vinigar to 6 parts water and shaking it up I could pour it over her scalp and have her sleep like that with a towl on her pillow. Wow does it clear up the irratation quick with no pain...no medication and no itching....I use Braggs apple cider vinigar with the mother in it for that.
I mix red wine vinigar and olive or sunflower or soy oil on my salad in place of commercial salad dressing...I sprinkle mrs dash and a small amount of parmasuan cheese on it and its perfect.
IN addition I use white distilled vinigar to help me clean my veggies...
When I soak my potatoes I add vinigar to the water to help get the dirt off then I rinse and scrub with clean water before I peel.
I also make a light rinse of 1 part vinigar 8-10 parts water and spray on veggies and fruits to help clean them(shake between uses.) |

I have been told that you can add vinegar to the cheap laundry soap and it makes it just as good as the expensive soap. Is this true or not? I saw where you can use it in the fab. softener dispencer. Do you go full strength or do you add water like with fab. softener? Thanks |

My son designs furniture pieces, such as standing cupboards, benches, etc. His aim is the primitive look, so he collects old hings and latches and such. The product is lovely. He had one failure he gave me. It is a shelf unit with two doors, painted a greenish blue and he sanded off some areas for a 'used' or antique look. Oddly, the darned thing gave off a chemical odor, which we thought we could get used to and the cause of which was a mystery. Now we've arrived at the possibility that he used up some OUTDOOR paint he had left from another project, which he should not have used for an indoor item. I loved the damn thing and have gotten rid of the odor? How? I poured white vinegar into an open jar and place it inside. It helped. Two days later, I replaced the vinegar with fresh stuff and now the odor is gone!
We have one room we smoke in. Believe me, it now contains a hidden open jar of white vinegar. Amazing! |

We just purchased two one gallon jugs of Vinegar at Costco for 3.59. They come boxed in sets of two just like their milk does. You can find it in the baking isle. With all these uses I will surely be going through this vinegar fast. With the economy the way it is I bet you could buy vinegar stock and actually make money! Thanks for all these great tips. NOTE: This price was in Washington state. |

Vinegar makes an excellent hair rinse for after shampoo to soften the hair and remove "dulling soap film" and you won't smell like a salad either. Much less expensive than even the cheapest conditioner and won't weight the hair down. One caveat: This is for natural hair color. I don't know how it would work for color-treated or bleached hair, but it leaves natural color hair soft, sleek and shiny. |

An easy way to clear hard water build up on shower heads or faucets is to place white vinegar inside a small plastic storage bag. Then submerge the showerhead or faucet in the vinegar. Place a rubber band tightly around the opening of the bag along the handle of the pipe. Leave overnight and remove before your morning shower. All hard water or mineral deposits will be dissolved. Rinsing your hair in vinegar after a perm or coloring helps rid the smell and no you won't smell like vinegar when it dries. You can rinse with water after the vinegar rinse, if you're concerned.
My folks used vinegar on everything. Mom is 93.

I live in an apartment community and I can't tell you how my toilet bowl gets a major build up of darker, hardened calcium ring around the water level.
I've done many tricks, the alkaseltzer trick and even used a RAZOR to scrape it off, besides a ton of various chemicals.
I can't believe my toilet looks like this. In 52 years of my life, I have never found anything so difficult to fight. I never want a guest to even use my toilet. I am not a dirty person and this makes me nuts! |

Thanks for all of the new ideas re. vinegar use! My mother and grandmother had gotten me hooked on it some time ago, and I buy gallons of it during semi-regular sales at my local supermarket. As I have had chronic, extremely severe kidney infections/UTIs due to a rare bone tumor (currently in remission), I combat them by drinking 1 tablespoon of vinegar mixed with 8oz water every morning. A family aquaintance suggested this on advice from his elderly family doctor. His physician has been recommending it to his patients for 45-some-odd years, with great success. It works wonders re. keeping my kidney problems at bay.
I routinely add a few Tbs. vinegar to my shampoo to rid my hair of product buildup, and I rinse it with a mixture of vinegar and water for shine. Although my long, thick-yet-fine hair is colored (dark brown, permanent dye), these treatments have never stripped or faded it whatsoever.
I no longer buy astringents or toners to combat my oily complexion and use a mixture of water and vinegar instead. (Although I'm in my mid-30s, I have the super-oily skin of a teenager.) My makeup application now seems to last longer, and my complexion is definitely less oily and considerably clearer.
We share our home with our very beloved cats, and we now mop our floors with vinegar and water. Our tile and stone floors clean up beautifully, and this cleaner is feline-friendly.
We have also ditched many of our household cleaners for a homemade, vinegar-based one. I read about this particular recipe via the internet: Put one-half cup of baking soda into a large spray bottle; very slowly add one cup of vinegar. Fill the bottle with water, and add one Tbs. Dawn dishwashing liquid (to fight oil and grease). This cleaner is truly marvelous! We use it on our kitchen counters, stove and other appliances, sinks, bathtubs, and showers, toilets, etc. According to the recipe, original-formula Dawn works best--I bought a large bottle at my local Dollar General store for .50 that will probably last (for this purpose) the rest of my natural life! |
