Mattress Deals From Your Local Hotel/Motel

Submitted by: juliann8301  01/18/2009 3:37 PM

Fall 2007 - we needed at least a full-sized bed for our daughter's room. I saw an ad in the paper for mattresses and box springs for $10 each. Turned out that our local Holiday Inn was buying new mattresses for their beds, so they were getting rid of all their old ones. They were for a long full-size bed (queen length, full width), but for the price, I figured we could work that out.

The guy on duty helped me find a decent-looking mattress and box spring. My husband bought a metal adjustable frame (cost about $30 or $40). My parents had a full-size headboard they didn't need, so that was no cost.

I bought standard queen size sheets, blankets, and a quilt on sale through a JC Penney catalog (had them shipped to our local store for more savings). So far, this has worked out well.

Now we could use a queen size mattress and box spring. Think I'll call our local hotels/motels...

Please tell me you are not REALLY going to put that nasty thing on your daughter's bed. If you do I hope you do some serious debugging first. Hotel beds are notorious for having some terrible germ and personal discharge problems. M

I'm sorry, but this is an unhealthy and unsanitary tip. Thousands of people have slept in and copulated on that mattress. I'm sure there are multiple types of bodily fluid soaked into that mattress. Do you really want your daughter to spend 8 hours a day on that?

This is a very unhealthy tip. While purchasing Hotel Furniture when they remodel is okay purchasing a mattress is not! Please remove the mattress from your daughter's bed and check out your local wholesale club - like Sam's for a new mattress that is inexpensive!

There have been numerous news stories lately about the resurgence of bed bugs, with hotels being the first and hardest hit. If you bring them into your home, they are extremely difficult to eradicate. (When staying in a hotel, you shouldn't put your suitcase on the bed because the bugs will hop in and go home with you.)

Not wise. If your that desperate Aerobed makes really nice air mattresses. I slept on a queen size for well over a year. It was even elevated from the ground and looked very nice when made up. Otherwise buy a $15 dollar sleeping bag or hammock because Hotel beds are very unsanitary.

I appreciate your comments. One question for you all: What on earth do you do when you actually have to stay in a hotel and sleep on one of those beds? Do you bring your own mattress protector? Sanitizing solution? Please clue me in!

I'm not sure which is worse - sleeping on a mattress that has been out of service for a month or so and stored in freezing temps in a semi trailer, or sleeping on a hotel bed that has been used very recently.

Very good point Juliann. Remember to think about what you do everyday before you slam someone.

Example... once my Sister needed a "new" toilet (she had just aquired a rental property & the prievous tendants ruined the old toilet)and found a used one locally. Was by far in better shape than the one she had.

One could simply argue.. OMG!!!! Thats disgusting! Then ask yourself... how many times have you used a public bathroom???
