I call my telephone service and went on measured calling line. This is 10.00. I am allowed to call out 30 times in one month, but can received unlimited calls. I do all my calling through my computer using magicjack which cost me around 100.00 for 5 years. My telephone went from 65.00 to 40.00. Next I am going tocancel my computer line and get a cheaper one on the internet. I expect my bill to go to 11.00 for the phone and 15.00 for my computer. I will save about 40.00 per month.

Very informative Dorothy. I have been researching information on the magicjack to post on my blog and I think I will be doing the same thing as you.
This is a tremendous saving. I wasn't familiar with a measured calling line, I will check on that. I have AT&T. Thanks.

In Ohio, if on assistance or older, you can get your phone for $8.10 a month. I have it, using ATT.

I use a calling card, for long distance. I got 2/2000 min cards from RiteAid, when they had them on sale, to By One Get One. I've had them over 3 yrs now, and still have yet to use up the one. Cost was around $60. You can use them while traveling, or if you don't have change to use a pay phone (uses double the time).

I also have MagicJack for my pc. Not all area codes are covered. Mine isn't. So, anyone calling me, using the area code I was given, is calling long distance. I can call them with no problem.

You are supposed to be able to hook this up to your regular home phone line, but it isn't all that simple to do, I heard.

I pay. $22.88 for basic no frill service from AT&T. Unlimited local calls. i use a similiar long distance calling card as above. It takes me a year to use up all the minutes. My cell phone is a Trac phone i buy the year contract. It takes a year to use all the minutes. i use it very sparingly. These measures have been a big savings for me.

Here in Texas I use AT&T, measured line is 6.00, then they tack on the taxes and other charges brings it up to a whopping 12.00 per month. I have been using Vonage for the past 4 years, I had tried the Magicjack and was not impressed with the service, it cut out a lot, were vonage doesn't, but it all depends on the area where your located, we will be moving in two weeks, so I may just give it a try again.
I am willing to try anything that is going to bring my cost down drastically.

If you are subscribing to broadband internet, you can subscribe to Vonage for 25 dollars a month plus 30 dollars or so setup charge and some small charge for the device. That gives you free long distance, 24/7.
