Preserving Paint Brushes and Rollers

Submitted by: Michael Coutts  01/26/2009 10:59 PM

If you are in the middle of a painting job but out of time, don't clean your brush or roller. Tightly wrap them in plastic wrap or foil and store them in the refrigerator until you are ready to resume painting. This works with either latex or oil based paint.

Never thought of putting them in the fridge-great idea. I usually take a damp paper towel and wrap it around the roller and the wrap the roller in a plastic bag. I don't even have to take the roller off of the roller handle. works great.

There's absolutely no advantage to putting the brush or roller in the refrigerator.

I have always reused plastic bags from the store for this.

Actually they can be put in the freezer for longer storage of a year or two. I use foil to wrap my rollers and always wash my brushes. We paint a lot.

I also do this all the time. Not a painter, and hate to clean the mess even more. I put mine in the freezer for very long periods of time. Thaw few mins, and you are good to go. It is a lot cheaper then having to keep buying them, since I throw them out, rather than clean them. So now I don't have to.
