Ask for the Slower Speed Cable Internet

Submitted by: anonymous  01/29/2009 9:57 PM

I use the lowest speed from the cable company. If you don't ask, for the slowest speed, they won't tell you about it, normally.

If not playing games online, downloading lots of music and movies, you don't need the faster speeds.

This is true- they will NOT tell you there is a cheaper internet package. I call and ask every so often if there is anything any cheaper. I saved between $10.00- $15.00 a MONTH by doing this and switching. Since we have a hot rod computer anyways, we can't tell a bit of difference in speed.

Tried this one myself. Went from $50 per month "high speed" to $19.95 1 meg service. Can't even hardly tell the difference.

I got the "economy plan" slower speed cable internet service. You have to ask for it. I now can do online banking, watch Netflicks and TV on my computer. Price? $19.99. Of course, I had to buy the modem, but I quickly made that $100.00 up by saving money with TV on the PC, Netflicks, and a converter box for my antenna TV. My total monthly bill for TV and internet is now $30.00

To Jennifer:
To watch hulu you need to keep at least a 2 mb connection. Any slower and it may have it pause to load now and then. I have a 1.44 mb connection and "sometimes" it pauses about 2 or 3 times for about a minute during a 25/30 minute show.

To $$$saver:
VOIP is affected by your upload speed more than download speed. In the slower packages your upload speed may be below what's needed for VOIP. Check your package and make sure the upload speed is at least 256 kb. I recommend 512 kbs upload if you plan to browse while talking. Your download speed will usually be at least double your upload speed if not many times more.
