Avoid Multi-Ink Jet Cartridges

Submitted by: anonymous  06/05/2008 2:22 AM

I've been doing some research on ink jet cartridges recently and came across a PC World article that highlighted a study that showed that as much as 60 percent of the ink contained in a typical inkjet cartridge is wasted.

One tip that was highlighted in the article was that multi-ink cartridges, the ones that contain wells for black, cyan, magenta in one cartridge are particularly wasteful because the colors are not used in event amounts with one color getting exhausted before the others forcing the replacement of the whole cartridge and wasting the remaining ink from the other colors.

If your cartridges have computer chips to prevent refilling, GREAT NEWS! --you can now purchase chip resetters so you can refill. Bad news is they are only for seven-pin cartridges, so far. The same PC World article also noted that aftermarket non-branded inks fade faster. If you're not using your printer for photos, no worry. Keep bills and receipts scanned, print only as necessary, and keep print copies in the file cabinet, away from light.
