Home-made Baby Food Made Easy

Submitted by: anonymous  02/11/2009 8:39 PM

Each weekend I go to the local farmer's market to buy fresh in-season produce such as sweet potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, green beans, etc. I then steam them up and put freeze them for use throughout the week. We save money and also provide home-made nurtition for my 6 month old.

A great book on how to make baby food, increase nutrition, and make tons of other things like play-do, and cleaning supplies is Super Baby Food, by Ruth Yaron.

I never bought baby food in those little plastic containers unless we were traveling. We saved a ton of money, and both of kids love healthy food...including things like spinach, which I grind up, freeze in cubes and throw into soups and stews.

Check out "Feed Me I'm Yours". I believe the author is Vicky Lansky. It was my bible. While you want to save money, proper nutrition is paramount. It tells you how to do both.

That's a great idea, one which I've always used. But the key thing I've been seeing is not to get stressed out over the whole thing. So, you have to actually buy baby food. It's not the end of the world. Just look for the sugar and sodium free jars. No fillers too.
Homemade is easier than most people think. Finding a good book as recommended is a great help, or just google homemade baby food.
I do have to say though. My homemade bananas have never tasted like the name brand baby food bananas. I just wish they sold those by the case.
